Ready for a big update? We’ve been busy!
We have more than enough flats to build everything. Bill and Pete Wright are now taking an inventory of the flats to see how best to break them down for building purposes and what additional material might be needed. We’re also looking into some flooring for the interior of the city to help wit the atmosphere. Right now, we’re thinking about stone decals and/or dirt and sand.
The current plan is to put everything together this summer at the end of June or early July. After that, everything will be carefully labelled, dismantled, and stored. In January, we’ll bring it all out and build for the performance. That way, there will be time for the performers to rehearse on the actual set before opening night.
Nancy Eriksen has been busy researching appropriate materials and patterns. She’s getting into the details! She’s asked for help from the sewing group, but there is definitely room for more.
A couple of people are making skull caps for the soldiers. This is a matter of knitting, and there is room for more! Nancy & Co. can sew some Roman soldier tunics if they need to but–
The Roman Armor
Their armor is another matter entirely. There is some possibility that some re-enactors will be volunteering as guards, which would be amazing. Their gear is absolutely top-notch.
If they don’t come, or if we need some additional actors, we’ll be calling on cosplayers for help. There are some excellent people out there capable of crafting breastplates, helmets, and (I assume) swords.
If it comes down to it, we could rent, but given that we want the costumes to have both an authentic look and a properly worn look, this is our last resort option.
Our Director, Zack Bortot, is currently immersed in theater productions at Biola University and cannot meet with the Good Friday 5:15 PM Staff until May. While he will direct the entire performance if is necessary, our plan is to have more than one director, ideally one for each of the three sections in the performance area. They could then answer to Zack.
The plan is to hold auditions in September.
Our Current To-Do List
- Get a running list of flats (Construction of the Set- Item #1) to determine placement and possible best use.
- Find a Props Person
- Find a Greeter/Hospitality Person
Find an Animal Coordinator to get us some animals for the production. Nothing huge–just a couple of sheep, maybe a goat or two, and quite possibly a llama.
Establish a rough list of props
We’re making good progress! Please remember, there is always room for more if you can help in any of the areas above or on our How You Can Help page, please contact us!. Even an hour or two spent texturing panels would be welcome! And prayer is always needed.
